I was so beyond excited when Jill asked me to photograph her — this adventurous lady was about to take a solo bike trip up the California coast, and wanted to document herself and all her gear before she left. This is the stuff that makes me so giddy, and makes me feel so lucky to do what I do.

I’d rather babies play, be themselves and naturally warm up to a stranger with a huge lens in their face. While some babies are perfectly calm and okay with being held, can smile on command and remain all sorts of happy for long periods of time, I understand that isn’t the case for all the babies.

Read MoreI met the absolute sweetest and softest golden retriever pup, Nova, and her parents last weekend. Nova is as soft as she looks and was making me laugh this entire shoot. Her wise eyes would rest for a photo and in a flash, this baby girl was ready to play and give her mama all the kisses. If all my shoots had a puppy in them, I think I’d be juuuuuust fine with it.
